October is STEM Mentoring Month! It is so important that young people have caring adults in their life who encourage them to explore new passions and inspire them to dream big. Mentorship drives discovery and exploration by connecting young people with passionate individuals, creative networks, and exciting opportunities. Supporting Youth After Gun Violence
As if an enduring global pandemic wasn't challenging enough, many young people are also dealing with the threat or the reality of gun violence in our schools and communities. Below are some resources gathered by Voices for Virginia's Children that may help you support young people as they try manage big emotions like fear, anxiety, and trauma around gun violence.

Community mental health resources:
  • Crisis Text Line – text HOME to 741741 for free, 24/7 crisis support
  • In Virginia, contact the emergency services number for your local community services board
  • The NAMI Virginia HelpLine (1-888-486-8264) is not a crisis hotline, but can refer callers to local support groups, educational programs, and general information for accessing mental health systems
  • For those local to Richmond, Virginia, and surrounding counties:
  • Youth and families can call ChildSavers Immediate Response line for 24/7 crisis support, 804-305-2420
