Everybody Wins DC Programs Are Live!
Over the past few months, the Everybody Wins DC team has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year. Following the DCPS and APS announcement of distanced learning due to COVID-19 over the summer, we began brainstorming, planning, listening to our supportive parents, volunteers and students, and testing new ways to best deliver our programs. We even kicked off a few shared reading activities last month just to get you ready for what we had in store.

To help meet the emerging needs of children, families, and school communities we serve across the DC metro area, EWDC is excited to announce that our core shared reading programs for the 2020-2021 school year are now live: Power Readers, StoryTime, The Book Project, Family Workshops, and more. These opportunities and experiences will offer supportive, fun, and informative ways to stay engaged through reading while learning safely from home.

All of this is possible because of the amazing support we receive from people like you. Thank you. And as we continue to roll out shared reading programs, your continued commitment will help EWDC reach even more children and communities in need – especially those hit hardest by COVID-19. Make a one-time donation or join our monthly giving program. As little as $5/month can provide a year of activities for a child.

Power Readers
Power Readers (formerly known as Power Lunch) is now in session!

We have expanded the program beyond our traditional lunch hour to bring the power of shared reading to more students, and at times that better align with families’ needs, hence the reason for the name change.

Neveah and her mentor, Laverne were a part of our first cohort of Power Readers to log into their virtual reading sessions this week.

The two hadn't seen each other since program ended early in March, but you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at them.
It was all smiles during their first virtual session.
StoryTime
Virtual StoryTimes bring together small groups of students to participate in a fun read-aloud experience with special guests, often centered on themes such as social-emotional learning, community issues, and career exploration. This October, EWDC is working with our partners, Motorola and Blue Origin to bring you an interactive line up of StoryTime sessions.

Shared Reading Library
The Shared Reading Library brings on-demand read-aloud videos directly into the homes of the children and families we serve.

Each week, caring adults submit videos of themselves reading and discussing popular children stories aloud, which are available to view on our YouTube channel. Interested in submitting a video? Click here
Family Workshops
Distance learning - it's not just for kiddos! Family Workshops are designed to address the needs and/or requests of families whose children are involved in our programs.

At a time when our adult interactions are often limited, we hope that these opportunities to learn together feed your soul as they build knowledge and spark further exploration.

This election season, we're excited to share a special Family Workshop on civil liberties with our partners at Dentons DC on Wednesday, November 4. Click here to learn more or sign up.
The Book Project
The Book Project extends the power of shared reading from school to home by giving away FREE books to Power Lunch students to build their personal home libraries. Because access to books in the home is critical to successful reading development.

This month, EWDC partnered with the Homeless Children's Playtime Project to distribute close to 100 books to children living in one of their short-term family shelters.

Children in this program span a range of ages, and will have both a library of books to read at the shelter and a book to take with them when they leave.
Give the Gift of Books
You can help EWDC bring the power of shared reading to more students, schools, and communities by hosting your own Book Drive.

Hosting a book drive is an easy way to make a real impact in your community and support students in need by giving them something they want – new books for their home libraries.

Anyone can host a book drive!
Book drives can be done through work, book clubs, fraternities, sororities, church groups, etc. EWDC provides all necessary logistical support and supplemental materials you need to get it done.
