Greetings,

I am pleased to begin this update with the photo above, which recently appeared on the front page of the Telegraph Herald. Here we see Professor of Art Louise Kames ’77 and a student in her printmaking course collaborating with Crescent Community Health Center to produce décor for the clinic as well as for the homes of patients. Art, indeed, heals!

As we reflect on the achievements of the past academic year, we also look to the future of our institution with continued work on our strategic plan this summer.

Strategic Plan Progress

The Strategic Plan Committee, with input from across the Clarke community, has finalized the goals that will guide future planning. They are:

  • Live our Mission and Values
  • Empower Student Success
  • Sustain Institutional Vitality
  • Cultivate a Lasting Legacy

In light of these goals, we have begun an assessment and planning process to develop a student success center, to renovate residence halls and administrative offices, and to relocate the library. By modernizing these spaces and investing in the programming and services they provide, we will empower student success and sustain institutional vitality for many generations of Clarkies to come.

In addition, we recently welcomed to our Clarke family three people who will be implementing our new professional advising program, and we will welcome the new Dean of Academic Affairs in August.

Campus News

Living our mission and values and cultivating a lasting legacy have been abundantly evident since the last update was shared.

  • Please join me in congratulating the 220 students who made the Spring 2023 Dean’s List by earning a 3.65 or higher GPA this spring. Many of these students, in addition to coursework, have jobs, play a sport, participate in the arts, and engage in other activities while achieving academic excellence. We are proud to call them members of the Pride.
  • Our faculty and students are hard at work as we offer 49 courses to 452 students this summer.
  • We welcomed 20 new students to the Accelerated Elementary Education program that provides a path to a teaching degree, enabling substitute teachers and paraprofessionals to enhance their careers as well as their students’ learning.
  • Clarke Athletics will offer opportunities for youth to get active through summer camps. If you know any young people who are looking to improve their skills and have some fun, encourage them to attend!
