Project Dispatch, Issue 3

Dear Neighbor,

The Buda Bonds team alongside the Buda Bond Oversight Committee (BBOC) continue working hard behind the scenes to help bring the Buda Bonds projects to life. This issue of the Project Dispatch includes more project milestones and updates.

More Transportation and Parks Projects Are Underway

A total of nine transportation projects and five parks projects are moving forward! Since the last Project Dispatch newsletter at the end of November, the Buda City Council has approved additional contracts for the following Buda Bonds projects:

Prop A: Transportation

  • Old Black Colony Reconstruction Awarded to K Friese + Associates
  • West Goforth Road Awarded to Freese & Nichols
  • Bella Vita Sidewalk Bridge (Capital Improvement Project) – Awarded to PMGR Development Group

Prop B: Parks & Recreation

  • Onion Creek Trail – Awarded to Freese & Nichols
  • Green Meadows Park Awarded to BJ Parks & Recreation Products

City officials have also approved three contracts for geotechnical engineering services. Geotechnical surveys asses the integrity of soil, clay, silt, sand, and rock to ensure the area is suited for construction. This work is a key part of project implementation and is typically done before design to gather data that can be later used to identify conditions. By securing three firms for services, the City will have many resources to utilize as needed on all projects.

The following firms have been awarded geotechnical contracts:

  • B2Z Engineering
  • HJV South Central Texas
  • Terracon Consultants

Project Updates and Milestones

Surveys and Traffic Counts: Data collection is a significant component of prepping for preliminary design. Field work has started for the following transportation projects:

  • Old Black Colony Road
  • West Goforth Road
  • RM 967 Acceleration/Deceleration Lanes
  • RM 967 Right Turn Lane onto FM 1626

Residents in these areas may see crews working in the right of way (ROW). Property owners will be contacted if access to their property is needed to complete work. Remember to keep your eyes on the road and slow down if you see our crews in the ROW!

Green Meadows Park: A new shade pavilion is coming to Green Meadows Park! City Council approved the purchase and installation is expected to be complete this August.

Project Site Visits: Check out our team behind the scenes! Over the last month, our project team members have been hard at work to kick-off preliminary design work for Bond projects. We’ve conducted site visits with contracted design firms at Garlic Creek Trail, Onion Creek Trail, and Garison Park.

BBOC Project Prioritization

Last month, BBOC members participated in an interactive activity to prioritize potential projects to be funded with discretionary Bond program funds. These projects include small mobility improvement projects or bike and pedestrian improvements that create connectivity within the City. Some of the top projects included:

  • Sidewalk along Main Street/S. Loop 4 to Norris Skate Park
  • Shade structures at City parks
  • Main Street pedestrian crossings
