Construction News

Construction on the I-435 and U.S. 69 interchange

Long-term closures are in effect for several ramps at I-435/U.S. 69/College Blvd. as bridge reconstruction continues. Please follow the marked detours and be patient with fellow drivers.

The northbound U.S. 69 ramp to Blue Valley Parkway is fully open this week.

The 167th interchange work continues, with paving moving forward on the new U.S. 69 northbound bridge over 167th Street. Work on the new northbound pavement is also nearing completion. 167th Street will be expanded to four lanes and include roundabouts at the U.S. 69 and 167tht Street intersection, and the project will add south-facing ramps to and from both directions of U.S. 69. The 167th Street closure will remain in place through early October.

Variable toll message signs have been installed in some locations along the 69Express corridor and will show test messages in lights on the board until the express lanes open to traffic in January 2026. KDOT appreciates drivers' patience and awareness while navigating the work zone.

Trail Updates

To ensure pedestrian safety, some trails under U.S. 69 have been closed during construction. The timeline for local trail openings:

  • The Tomahawk Creek trail is scheduled to open in Summer 2025
  • The Indian Creek Trail will reopen with the completion of the southbound U.S. 69 bridge in Summer 2025
  • The trail that runs past Heartland Elementary on the west side of U.S. 69 is currently closed and will reopen following noise wall completion and restoration in Fall 2025

KDOT and KTA Text Scam

Be aware of a nationwide texting scam about unpaid tolls. Neither KDOT nor the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) sends unsolicited text messages. If you receive a suspicious text, do not click links. Learn more about identifying and reporting these scam messages. Individuals who have received a scam message may report it to the Federal Trade Commission or the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
