Discontinuation of Project SUCCESS Online Paraprofessional Courses
Welcome to the July 2020 newsletter brought to you by Project SUCCESS! We look forward to supporting you in your work to improve academic outcomes for students with significant needs. Below, please find details on upcoming events, new resources, and recent updates from our community.
Project SUCCESS Virtual Summer Institute
The Project SUCCESS series on Building Inclusive Teams is over, but that doesn't mean the learning has to end! You can view recordings of the 3-part series and access the Engagement Guide and other resources on the Summer Institute page of our website. Bonus: A Facilitator's Guide is being developed so groups of educators can work through the training series on their own. More information coming soon!
Returning to the Classroom: Face Coverings
It's still unclear what the beginning of the school year will bring - but whenever educators return to the classroom, they will likely need to do so while wearing face masks. Unfortunately, covering your face as an educator means that many students lose out on the ability to read lips, notice facial expressions, or differentiate between letter sounds. Check out this link for sources of face coverings that allow the mouth to be seen!
Discontinuation of Project SUCCESS Online Paraprofessional Courses
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is now offering free professional development modules through the IRIS Center. IRIS is a national center dedicated to improving education outcomes for all children, especially those with disabilities birth through age twenty-one, through the use of effective evidence-based practices and interventions. With the IDOE's transition to the IRIS modules, the Project SUCCESS Paraprofessional Courses are no longer be available, as of July 1.
In alignment with the IDOE, we encourage you to use the IRIS modules to support your paraprofessionals' learning, and to contact the Office of Special Education for support. You can reach them via email at specialeducation@doe.in.gov, or by phone at (317) 232-0570.
