Welcome to the first quarterly newsletter brought to you by Project SUCCESS! With the school year underway, we look forward to supporting you in your work to improve academic outcomes for students with significant needs. Below, please find details on upcoming events, new resources, and recent updates from our community.
Fall regional trainings
Join Project SUCCESS in September for a full-day session designed to support teachers who are new to working with students with significant needs and/or Content Connectors.
New resource documents: Vertical Alignment, and I AM Blueprint description
Project SUCCESS has updated the resource documents that vertically align Content Connectors (CCs) in K-5 and 6-12+ grade bands to indicate the estimated priority level of each CC, based on how likely it is to appear on I AM. We have also developed a guidance document that color codes the I AM blueprints according to those estimated priority levels, to help teachers plan how much time to spend targeting each CC in instruction. Reminder: ALL CCs are important for instruction; not all CCs will appear on the I AM assessment.
Project SUCCESS will present a series of four pre-recorded webinars during the 2019-2020 school year. Viewers can ask questions and learn more through our live virtual office hours. The first webinar will be released over email on
Wednesday, September 18th, and live virtual office hours will take place
Wednesday, October 2nd from 3:30-4:30 p.m. ET.

Summer Institute recap + link
This summer, Project SUCCESS hosted its Summer Institute for general education and special education administrators to learn more about Content Connectors and the positive impact of presuming competence in students with significant needs. Nearly 75 administrators from across the state reflected on current district practices and made plans for continuing the growth of teacher skill sets for working with students with intense needs. In case you missed it, you can view the recorded summary webinar for administrators here.
Brownsburg's Dream Team for curriculum mapping
In June, teachers at Brownsburg Community School Corporation met to develop curriculum maps for students with significant needs. As an alternative to special education teachers shouldering the entire work of content development, general education teachers collaborated and brought expertise in their respective subjects. High school special education teacher Brad Rosebrock described the process for mapping ELA and Math as "one of the most productive days of PD we have had."
We'd love to hear from you. If you have any questions or would like additional information about any of the above updates, email us at project_success@pcgus.com.
