Eversource 115-kV Project Update

Hello Miles,

Members of the community can expect to see construction at several sites related to the Eversource 115-kilovolt (kV) Underground Transmission Line Project. Eversource asks people to avoid walking on the inactive Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) rail corridor.

Crews are focused on placing cable vaults (also called manholes or MH for short) and installing duct bank. In both cases the operation begins with excavation, installing the cable vault or duct bank, and backfilling trenches. Crews typically work between recently placed cables vaults to install duct bank, for example, between MH12 and MH13 in Hudson.

Work Hours

Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday but crews are working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional crews are working from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., in the Hudson roads at the intersection of Main Street and Forest Avenue. Occasional work may extend beyond the approved hours, due to unforeseen circumstances, based on approval from local officials.

Below is an overview of the active work zones. View the project map for additional details on the location of work crews.

Hudson

  • On Forest Avenue and Wilkins Street, crews are continuing to excavate and install duct bank in the road between two cables vaults (MH4 and MH5) between Glendale Road and Main Street. Crews are also performing night work (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) at the Main Street crossing at Forest Avenue. Work at this road crossing is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
  • In the corridor between Wilkins Street and Bridge 130, crews are beginning the excavation and installation of duct bank between MH6 and MH7.
  • In the corridor from Main Street to Parmenter Road, crews are working to complete final grading. This activity will continue next week.
  • On Chestnut Street north of the corridor, crews will be working to construct an emergency vehicle turn-around that will be used during construction of the Chestnut Street crossing. This work will be completed by the end of the week.

Sudbury

  • In the corridor from Peakham Road to Horse Pond Road, crews plan to begin excavating and installing conduit within the limits of work, working between two previously installed cable vaults (MH20 and MH21).
  • Between Boston Post Road and Bridge 127 in the MBTA corridor, crews will begin to install a cable vault (MH25) north of Maple Ave. This work will continue through to next week.
  • Off Union Avenue in the MBTA corridor, crews will install another cable vault (MH24) west of Union Ave, once MH25 is completed.

*Due to the complexities of underground construction, the two-week schedule described above is subject to change.
