Project Overview and Benefits
The Brittany Bay Park and Living Shoreline project is designed to enhance our city’s green space and improve water quality in Biscayne Bay through the use of nature-based solutions. Nature-based solutions can be defined as the sustainable management and use of nature for tackling challenges such as climate change, water and food security, biodiversity protection, human health, and disaster risk management.
The park will undergo improvements designed to revitalize the waterfront and enhance the experience of park users. The construction of a hybrid living shoreline will protect the existing mangroves and create a new coastal habitat allowing for the planting of additional mangroves.
An overlook with a viewing platform will provide access to the water’s edge. Lighting and exercise equipment will be replaced throughout the park, along the new concrete walkways. New furnishings and landscaping – trees and shrubbery, complete the new design for the park.
The project receives partial funding from the G.O. Bond Infrastructure Project: Seawalls and Shorelines, and The Nature Conservancy.
