Construction Scheduled to Begin Next Week

on the Century Boulevard Extension Project

Following site work preparation, construction will begin on Monday, August 3, on the Century Boulevard Extension Project.

What to Expect

Installation of erosion control measures along the perimeter of the project area.
Under a 1200-C permit, erosion control measures will be inspected for compliance before ground-disturbing work starts.

2-3 months of utility trench digging.
Trench work will allow utilities to move their lines underground.

Removal of designated trees and vegetation.
The Animal and Plant Health Investigation Service (APHIS) has been monitoring the area for nesting birds.
Tree removal will occur only within the road right-of-way, under the bridge, and along the overflow channel.
Trees of sufficient size will be stored on site and later used to build a flood water overflow channel under the bridge, which will improve habitat for fish during flood events.

After the project is complete, construction crews, in coordination with the City of Hillsboro's Parks and Recreation and Clean Water Services, will plant almost 1,000 trees and 3,500 plants, including:

97 street trees
48 trees between the sidewalk and Noble Woods Park
67 trees around the stormwater pond
138 trees along the new overflow channel
642 trees along Rock Creek and around the bridge

Mobility Impacts

Temporary pedestrian access routes will be installed to ensure people have a safe route to walk along Century Boulevard.

Vehicles can expect occasional delays while the contractor moves equipment. Lane closures will start when the contractor starts digging the utility trench. No road closures are planned in the coming months.

About the Project

The Century Boulevard Extension Project creates a new route between north and south Hillsboro, improving safety and mobility for travelers, neighbors, and Noble Woods Park-goers.

The project includes:

Installing a new long-span bridge over Rock Creek, connecting Century Boulevard between Lois and Main Street.
Realigning Century Boulevard, between Lois and Borwick streets.
Building enhanced street crossings with flashing beacons for safer access to transit, schools and parks at:
Borwick Street
Dogwood Street
Oelrich Street
Adding improved sidewalks, bike lanes, streetlights and storm drains.
Building a new center lane to allow drivers and cyclists to wait to turn more safely.
Creating an improved flood overflow channel using materials sourced on site.
Planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs in coordination with Hillsboro Parks & Recreation District and Clean Water Services.
