PROJECT UPDATE

Dec. 2024

Timber Road expected to reopen in May

Due to construction delays on the Timber Road Landslide Repair, Timber Road between Strassel and Cochran roads is now expected to reopen in May 2025.

Our contractor excavated the slope according to schedule. Now, filling in the slope and stone embankment is taking longer than our contractor estimated. The fall rains and continuing landslide activity are also contributing to delays.

Filling in the slope and embankment is expected to continue into April. Crews will then rebuild the road on top. We expect the road to reopen in May. Schedules are subject to change. Visit Timber Road Landslide Repair for regular updates.

We know that this closure has been a challenge to nearby residents and all who travel on Timber Road. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we build a road that will be more resilient for years to come.

Project Timeline

Schedules are subject to change

  • March 2023: Timber Road closed between Strassel and Cochran roads after we detected increased landslide movement and significant pavement displacement.

  • Spring-fall 2023: Our consultant completed a geotechnical evaluation to learn about the shape, location and movement of the landslide. Using that information multiple possible project concepts to stabilize the slide were developed.
  • Fall 2023: We weighed the costs and benefits of the project concepts and worked to identify project funding. A project concept was identified.

  • Winter 2023-June 2024: Our consultant completed the project design.

  • June-July 2024: We bid for a construction contractor and developed schedules.
  • September 2024: Construction began.

  • May 2024: Construction is scheduled for completion.
