Project Update: Venetian Causeway Water and Sewer Main Upgrades Phase 2

Notice Date: Friday, November 15, 2024

Project Update: San Marco Island to San Marino Island

The Venetian Causeway water and sewer main upgrades will be moving into the next section of the corridor. The construction between Belle Isle and Dade Boulevard is entering the final phase of the horizontal directional drilling operation, where the pipe will be pulled back through the bore into its final position. This work will require continuous contractor presence, including an overnight shift from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Please note that some noise may be generated during this operation.

The drilling, installation, and testing of the new water main between Belle Isle and Dade Blvd are expected to be completed within the next 3 to 4 weeks. The new HDPE pipe is scheduled to be fused and pulled into the borehole by the end of next week, followed by surveying, pressure testing, and temporary road restoration activities.

Timeline

Construction from San Marco Island to San Marino Island is expected to begin in December 2024. Work hours are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and include some Saturdays. Extended time is subject to city approval and will include community notification.

Please know that this schedule may change due to weather and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Project Overview

This construction project will replace the aerial water and sewer main crossings on the Causeway, which run along the north and south sides of the Venetian bridges. The City of Miami Beach is working to improve the utility infrastructure by replacing the existing pipes along the Venetian Causeway. This project has been ranked first in the prioritized list of critical assets for the Water & Sewer Renewal and Replacement Report. Once completed, the new lines will provide a sufficient flow capacity to meet the city's growing demands and extend the life of the water and sewer infrastructure.

This project involves replacing both the water and sewer mains that connect San Marco Island to San Marino Island, San Marino Island to Di Lido Island, Di Lido Island to Rivo Alto Island and Dade Boulevard. The project will include the installation of four water and two sewer mains with a horizontal directional drill (HDD), as well as connections to existing service lines.
