James Hoffman, President of Hoffman Construction Company, recently shared his perspective on the Foxconn project's statewide impact, including on his Jackson County-based construction firm.

" The benefits from the Foxconn Project in Racine County are having positive impacts across Wisconsin and are yielding measurable results in all parts of the state , even up here in Jackson County. This includes the team at Black River Falls-based Hoffman Construction Company, where employment levels have soared and more than 100 jobs have been created as a result of work we have won related to the project in Southeastern Wisconsin, some 220 miles from our headquarters ," said Hoffman.

" This is an exciting time to be in the construction business, especially in connection with Foxconn. All parts of Wisconsin will see positive economic impacts from this economic development project . VEBBER: FOXCONN REMAINS
COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENT
Recently, Lucas Vebber, general counsel and director of environmental and energy policy for Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, addressed misconceptions regarding the environmental regulations Foxconn is subject to.

Vebber clarifies that " Foxconn was required to obtain the exact same air and water quality permits as every other business in Wisconsin, and as such, has to meet 100% of our state’s stringent air and water quality standards, " and that "the project was approved with bipartisan support ."

He also confirmed "the project absolutely complied with, and worked within, the legal framework of the Great Lakes Water Compact . In fact, while some states, like Pennsylvania, for example, initially raised concerns — after further review of the application and approval even they agree that this project complies with the requirements of the compact."

MORONEY: FOXCONN IS HISTORIC, IT'S HAPPENING, AND IT'S EXCITING
Director of Strategic Economic Initiatives for the State of Wisconsin, Matt Moroney recently shared some insights on the reason Foxconn has come to Wisconsin and the impact it will have.

"Wisconsin won Foxconn in l arge part due to the state’s strong manufacturing legacy, talented workforce, strong business climate, and world-class educational institutions that are stepping up to equip our workforce with the skills needed to build careers in the technology of the future – right here in Wisconsin! Additionally, Foxconn will draw talent from across the nation and globe, making Wisconsin a “brain gain” state that keeps more of our own graduates and attracts other millennials to opportunities here," said Moroney.

He goes on to say, "Foxconn’s ripple impact to existing Wisconsin companies will also be historic. It is estimated that Foxconn will spend approximately $1.4 billion in Wisconsin supplier purchases annually . To put that into perspective, Oshkosh Corp made nearly $300 million in purchases from more than 700 Wisconsin-based companies in 140 communities throughout Wisconsin. Foxconn’s impact will be four times that ."

STILL: FOXCONN'S TECHNOLOGIES
WILL PLACE WISCONSIN ON LEADING
EDGE OF MANUFACTURING, HEALTH CARE
Tom Still, President of the Wisconsin Technology Council, recently discussed Foxconn's technology capabilities and what they could mean for the state.

"The standard descriptor of Foxconn is that of a company that assembles iPhones and television sets. That’s true, but it’s also a company with technologies to combat cancer; enhance learning for students; improve manufacturing quality and efficiency; store and retrieve massive amounts of medical data; create sustainable systems; and support legacy business sectors such as retail, aviation and transportation ," said Still.

"A tour of Foxconn’s exhibits was like a trip to an Epcot Center of technology, with something to amaze every visitor. Even if the 2,900-acre campus does not grow into “the eighth wonder of the world,” as Trump predicted, the company will redefine Wisconsin’s economy precisely because so many of its technologies build upon existing strengths ."
