Montecito Community Microgrid emerges from mudslides and wildfires
Starting with the Fire District, which recently agreed to move forward on a microgrid for its headquarters and fire stations, the Clean Coalition and the World Business Academy are staging a series of Community Microgrids in the Montecito area to provide indefinite renewables-driven backup power for critical facilities.
Why we need a Community Microgrid in the Goleta Load Pocket
Recent disasters and power outages in this grid-constrained Southern California region demonstrate the need for energy resilience. A Community Microgrid will provide unparalleled economic, environmental, and resilience benefits to the area, while serving as a replicable model for the rest of the country.
Clean Coalition proposes Feed-in Tariff (FIT) for local energy storage procurement under AB 2868
In a filing to the CPUC, we recommend that California IOUs use a FIT approach to procure local energy storage charged by renewables , based on the   FIT with Dispatchability Adder we designed for the City of San Diego. This approach, with streamlined interconnection as detailed in our   WDG Interconnection Pilot , is critical to deploying local solar+storage.
The first Advanced Energy Rebuild in Santa Rosa, California
Sonoma Clean Power’s $17,500 Efficiency and Electrification Incentive package provided an excellent opportunity to rebuild and upgrade a residence after the 2017 Tubbs Fire. Going all-electric saved money and made the home more comfortable, far more efficient, and much safer.
Utility Dive op-ed: Moving beyond business as usual to a resilient power system for California
PG&E's bankruptcy provides an opportunity for new legislation. We should mandate a move from a system based on remote power generation via thousands of miles of expensive, inefficient, dangerous transmission lines to a modern energy system that benefits the utility, California ratepayers, and residents facing fire risks.
Green jobs provide solutions to the most vexing problems we face
The new book The Great Pivot makes a case for the programs, policies, and funding that will help us update our energy system and create a sustainable future. Small-scale, decentralized Advanced Energy Communities will play a major role in this new economy.
