Susmita Chepang is from the Dhading district of Nepal. The Chepang's are an indigenous tribe of Nepal who used to live in caves. The Dhading district falls in the hilly region where there is fertile land but the terrain is hard so the agricultural practice is terrace farming. Since hunting and gathering isn't allowed by the Nepali government, the lower caste depend on the land owners and wealthy people of a higher caste to provide the use of their land for farming. The more children they have, the happier they are because instead of sending their children to school they use them to work on the farm lands.
Another major problem of the Dhading district due to poverty and lack of education is that most of the girls get trafficked to India for child labor or sex slavery which is where Susmita is from.
Susmita's father died when she was an infant and after a few years her mother eloped. Susmita then went to live with her aunt but her aunt's family is very poor and could not provide for her education and health.
Susmita is now in good care and receiving a good education under Promise Child support. She is doing well in her studies and all of her teachers are very excited to see her progress.
She is very kind to others and she loves to help and share with her other sisters in the Promise Child Home. Susmita is also growing in her walk with the Lord and loves to sing hymns and memorize verses from the Bible.
We thank you for your continuous support and prayers for her and we look forward to all that God has for this wonderful Promise Child, Susmita.
