CBPA Co-Hosts Proposition 36 Implementation Kickoff

The passage of Proposition 36 represents one of the most significant milestones in California’s criminal justice reform history, earning overwhelming support from voters statewide. Now, the focus shifts to implementing this measure effectively and equitably, addressing challenges collaboratively to honor the will of the people.

CBPA was among the first business organizations to endorse and provide financial backing for Proposition 36. As the proposition transitions into action, we remain committed to fostering dialogue and collaboration. To that end, CBPA partnered with the California District Attorneys Association (CDAA) to host a pivotal implementation meeting yesterday at Ovation Hollywood. This event convened over 100 professionals from the commercial real estate sector, law enforcement, and various other stakeholders to strategize on the next steps in bringing Prop 36 to life.

The meeting featured a variety of speakers, including CBPA President & CEO Matthew Hargrove, CDAA CEO Greg Totten, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, Senator Tom Umberg, Los Angeles Councilmember Traci Park, Orange County Assistant District Attorney Robert Mestman, executives from Walmart and Raley's, and other notable leaders.

Discussions covered key topics such as a legal overview of the initiative, perspectives from law enforcement and policymakers, the impact on retailers, and the intersection of addiction treatment, homelessness, and the justice system.

Retail theft remains a pressing issue for the commercial real estate industry. CBPA is dedicated to continuing its leadership in addressing this challenge and supporting initiatives that mitigate its impact on California communities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our co-host, CDAA, our venue host, Ovation Hollywood, and all the speakers and attendees who contributed to the success of this important meeting.
