Food Donations at Jewel

Notice: Food Pantry Donation Box Has Moved

We've received several calls asking about the location of the food pantry donation box at Jewel. Please note that it has been moved.

🛒 New Location: As you exit the store, turn right. You'll find the donation box in the area between the two sets of doors.

Grand Dominion Car Show to Benefit the Fremont Township Food Pantry

Annual Reuse-o-Rama- September 20

Our annual recycling and shredding event is scheduled for Saturday, September 20 from 9 am til noon.

AARP Class

The AARP Defensive Driving Course will be held on Tuesday, September 30 and Wednesday October1 from 9:00 am til 1:00 pm in the lower level of our building. Call Nancy at 847 223-2847 to register. You must attend both classes. $20 for AARP members $25 for all others.

Actors Needed for Cemetery Walk

Mundelein Historical Commission - Cemetery Walk


 

Call for Actors

The Mundelein Historical Commission is looking for actors to portray noted Historical Personalities in the Commission’s, Ivanhoe Cemetery Walk on Saturday, September 27th and Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. The graves of seven remarkable individuals interred in this Historic cemetery have been selected. Actors are needed play the following roles:

-       Thomas Payne (1807-1892): an original pioneer who settled in Fremont Township in 1836;

-       James (1854- 1917) and Rebecca (1861-1957) Holcomb: son and daughter-in-law of John Holcomb the founder of the Town of Holcomb, now Mundelein. 

-        Mercy Hitchcock Payne (1783-1859): pioneer and original member of Ivanhoe Congregational church.

-       Hurlbut Swan (1797-1878): farmer and county official. 

-       Asa Joice (1860-1924) son of James and Jenna Joice, freed slaves. Asa rose to prominence in Fremont Township as an elected official and member of the Ivanhoe Church council.

-       Ray Wells (1882-1956): first fire chief of Mundelein.

-       Gordon Ray (1893-1987): prominent farmer, carpenter, photographer, and businessman.

A total of 8 actors are needed: 2 women and 6 men (5 white and 1 black). Scripts are being prepared by local author and director, Joyce Lee. Actors will dress in period attire and present factual details on the life and times of the character they are portraying. Monologues will last approximately 3 minutes. It is intended that James and Rebecca Holcomb will be performed as a couple (1 male and 1 female) the other roles will be solo performances. Auditions will take place in late July. On September 27th there will be 2 performances at the Ivanhoe Cemetery, the first at 1 pm and a second at 3 pm. On October 1st there will be one performance at Fremont Library at 2 pm/.

Recycle Bedding, Shoes, Flags and Eyeglasses in our Shed

Recycling Drop-Off Available

You can recycle the following items in the shed located in our front parking lot:

  • Bedding and pet items (leashes, collars, toys, pet food, etc.) for dogs
  • Shoes
  • Yarn
  • American flags (for proper retirement)
  • Eyeglasses and hearing aids
