Property tax bills will be arriving this week.

The Wake County Tax Administration wants to work with residents who may need help paying!

As a community partner, we'd love for you to,

PLEASE, share this email and info with those you serve!

Property taxes are the county's biggest source of funding for programs to help our citizens and fund our schools.

Make a Payment Plan

Not sure you can pay your tax bill in full before Jan. 5?

¿No está seguro si puede pagar su factura total de impuestos antes del 5 de enero?

We'll help you create a short-term payment plan.

The earlier you call - the more affordable the payment options are. We can't help you if you wait until your bill is past due.

Avoid interest and costs when your balance is paid in full by Jan. 5.

Remember: state law allows unpaid taxes to be taken out of your paycheck, bank account or rent.

Need to pay a little at a time?

¿Necesita un plan de pagos?

Partial payments are welcome in any amount as long as you pay in full by Jan. 5, 2024

Prior approval is NOT needed to make installment payments on current bills.

Each time you send an installment, we'll mail you a statement with your remaining balance.

Tax Relief Programs

Need help paying your property taxes?

¿Necesita ayuda para pagar sus impuestos sobre la propiedad?

Are you:

* 65 or older & living on a low-income

* 100% disabled & living on a low-income

* A veteran with a total & permanent service-connected disability or an unmarried surviving spouse

You may qualify for a reduction in your property tax bill through three tax relief programs authorized by the state of North Carolina.

Seniors & Disabled Program:

Homeowners who are 65 and older or 100% disabled can get $25,000 or up to 50% off their home value, whichever is greater, if they meet certain income and ownership requirements.

Married couples can qualify even if only one partner is 65+ or disabled.

This tax relief does not need to be paid back.

Tax Deferment Program:

Seniors and those 100% disabled who’ve owned and occupied their homes for more than five years and meet income requirements can choose a program that ensures their property tax bill will not be more than 4-5% of their income. Taxes above the limitation are deferred.

Homeowners might have to pay some of this tax relief back, for example, if they move or sell their home.

Disabled Veterans Discount:

Veterans with a total and permanent service-connected disability, or their unmarried surviving spouse, can get $45,000 off their property value, no matter their income.

This tax relief does not need to be paid back.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE APPLICATIONS!

Per state law, the deadline was June 1, but late applications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis through December 31, 2023. Forgetting or not knowing about the program are typically not valid reasons for lateness. Examples of good cause include physical or mental illness, death of an immediate family member, military deployment, or delay in receiving disability certification.

Review the programs above to see if you might qualify and consider filing a late application. Call us with questions!
