Maryland Proposed Legislation Would Choose Your Energy Provider For You

MD Senate Bill 528 and House Bill 831 seek to BAN the use of natural gas, propane, and heat oil from new building construction and replacements starting NEXT YEAR.

On January 1, 2023, the following home appliances (and more!) will NO LONGER BE AN OPTION FOR CUSTOMERS on new construction or replacements:

Gas Stoves/Cooking

Gas Heat

Gas Water Heaters

Gas Fireplaces

Gas Generators

What can I do?

  • SPREAD THE WORD and let everyone know what is at stake- higher utility bills, higher construction costs, and job losses.

What's the effect?

More expense, less choice, and shaky reliability

  • Homeowners will not be able to retrofit their homes or repair existing heating oil systems- leading to costly new purchases that run only on electricity.

  • New construction will be BANNED from using any fossil fuels: no gas stoves, no gas fireplaces, no gas heat!

  • Limiting natural gas, propane, and heat oil will drive up costs for families, businesses, and seniors that enjoy cooking on propane and gas stove tops or have gas fireplaces, propane powered grills, and other popular home appliances.

  • A sole-source electric energy policy is dangerous. One cyberattack could leave families, hospitals, college students, and businesses without any source of electricity, lighting, or heat.

  • These bills will shut down our business in Maryland- we will not be able to survive under this legislation.
