Play Area Improvements in Oakland Mills

Columbia Association presented plans for improvements to two play areas in Oakland Mills at the February 10, 2026, Village Board meeting. These upgrades are part of the Board-directed Play Area Cluster Program, which was initiated in 2024.

The affected play areas are OM12 Camelback Lane and OM13 Gatsby Green. The Play Area Cluster also includes OM14 Offshore Green.

OM12 Camelback Lane will be fully redeveloped. The existing fort structure will be replaced with a unique climbing feature, a spring rider, and new bench and picnic table seating.

Due to limited space and environmental constraints at OM13 Gatsby Green, development options for a traditional play area are restricted. The proposed plan repurposes the site as a reforested seating area. In addition to native ornamental trees, the design includes a sway bench, a play panel, and a picnic table.

Repairs have recently been completed on the existing structure at OM14 Offshore Green. When that structure no longer passes its annual safety inspection, the site will be developed with a new play structure designed for children ages 2–12. These improvements will complete the redevelopment of this Play Area Cluster.

A 30-day public comment period is currently underway and will conclude with a follow-up presentation at the March 10, 2026, Village Board meeting. Community members are encouraged to submit comments to Open.Space@ColumbiaAssociation.org or call 410-312-6330.
