Decision Letters Coming in April

Director's Notes: Ms. Vikki Wismer

Decision Letters Will be Mailed Soon

All 10th graders who applied to The Governor's School will receive a letter by mid-April notifying them whether they have been accepted, declined, or wait-listed. The applicant pool was very impressive this year, and I wish we could have accepted many more of you, but we are limited by the number of places in our upcoming junior class. Therefore, if you were not accepted, please do not interpret that as any kind of negative judgment of your academic ability or accomplishments.

Where Do You Go From Here?

Before turning to specific information about what to do once you receive your admission decision, I'd like to invite all of you, whether your child was accepted or not, to continue receiving college planning advice from Dr. Fithian, along with information on STEM opportunities, by subscribing to her newsletter, College Planning Minutes.

Next Steps to Take After You Learn Your Admission Status in April

Accepted students: There is one last step you will need to take to reserve your place in next year's junior class. Please complete the enrollment contract included in your acceptance letter and return it to Virginia Price, our registrar, by April 22nd.

Wait-listed students: You will not have to take any steps to remain on the wait list. If a space becomes available, you will be contacted. Please be aware that we will not know this until at least May 20th, and spaces can open up as late as August.

Declined students: If you are declined, please know that I regret not being able to offer you a place in our program, but I encourage you to seek out other opportunities, such as Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses at your home high school, to further your interests and talents in STEM fields.

Will I Still Get the Prospective Student Pipeline Newsletter After This?

Families of students who have been accepted to The Governor's School and choose to attend will begin receiving a different newsletter, Governor's School News, to keep them informed of developments at the school and upcoming events of interest. Stay tuned for the first issue.

All families who wish to continue receiving college planning tips from Dr. Fithian are encouraged to subscribe to her College Planning Minutes newsletter. Read on to learn more.
