This day has become the online equivalent to Black Friday by retailers offering special pricing on their websites for purchasing their products, especially the most sought after products. When Driving Keep your car doors locked and windows closed when at all possible. If you must shop at night, park in a well-lit and populated area. Avoid parking next to large panel vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows, especially at night or in secluded areas. Park as close as you can to your destination and take notice of where you parked. Never leave your car with the motor running or with children or pets inside. Hide your purchases in the trunk or in the floorboards of your backseat. If they're in plain sight you are more likely to be robbed. Have your keys in hand before you walk to your car. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area. If you feel unsafe, ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving your shopping location. Many retailers will happily provide this service.

When Out Shopping Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, take a friend or family member with you. Stay aware of your surroundings. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with a debit or credit card when at all possible. Keep cash in your front pocket. Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused. Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible. If you do carry a wallet or purse. They are the prime targets of criminals in crowded locations. Avoid overloading yourself with packages. Not only does it make you a target, but it can also affect your balance in inclement weather. Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, "con-artists" may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.
