Protect your feet!
I witnessed two incidents on the Isle of Man of a simple motorcycle tip over while virtually stopped. One resulted in two broken bones when the bike fell on the person’s foot. The rider was wearing “touring boots” which were designed more for rain and weather protection than strength to protect the foot from impact or twisting.
There are many boots out today and the ones that protect the most are motocross boots. They are extremely thick and protective, but you clomp around when you walk, and they don’t give much ankle movement to shift. They are the most protective, but you have to learn how to ride with them. There are various other style boots such as trials, adventure touring, road race and touring to choose from. Think about how much protection you want and what you are willing to put up with, as far as some difficulty to use.
DO NOT ride without ankle protection! I had a friend years ago, that destroyed his ankle bone when his foot got stuck under the bike as he was sliding along after falling over. You want your rides to be great, and when they are done you want to go home safe, thinking how much fun you just had!
Like your helmet, don’t scrimp on getting quality product and solid protection.
