“We are standing on your shoulders…”
— Mandi Zucker, Executive Director, End of Life Choices, New York
| I recently spoke with Mandi who described their work to implement the newly passed New York medical aid in dying law. We were discussing the challenges to change laws around the country regarding end-of-life options. Mandi reflected that current conversations are much more open than they were in 2013. New York and other states are building on ground-breaking efforts spearheaded by Patient Choices Vermont (PCV)—they are standing on our shoulders. Attitudes are changing, and we should be proud of Vermont’s impact. | | Your Generous Contributions Have an Impact in Vermont and Across the Country | | Protecting freedom of choice and autonomy at the end of life is the cornerstone of PCV. Thanks to your dedicated support, PCV is a national leader in advancing end-of-life rights. And our movement is making progress. In 2025, three additional states, Delaware, Illinois, and New York, passed laws making Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) a legal option for their residents. In these three states alone, more than 33 million people have gained access to MAID. When the New York law takes effect in August, nearly one-third of all Americans, across 14 US jurisdictions, will have access to MAID. Your generosity makes this impact possible—in Vermont and far beyond. | | | |

| | Ensuring Access through Education | | |
Legally protected rights only matter if people know about them and can access them. That’s why PCV provides essential education for individuals, families, policy makers, healthcare professionals, and those providing direct care to those who are facing the end of life. Medical aid in dying has been legal in Vermont for 13 years, yet many Vermonters are still unfamiliar with this option. We are working to build awareness all across Vermont.
Education about MAID opens the door for meaningful, honest, and compassionate conversations about end-of-life wishes, whether they take place in death cafes, libraries, senior centers, doctors’ offices, or just across a kitchen table. See our Calendar of Events here.

For over a decade, PCV has supported the growing movement that embraces dying as a natural part of living. Our Outreach and Education program holds community gatherings several times each month, both online and in person in towns throughout Vermont.
“Thank you so much, always educational and thought-provoking.”

| | | Through our online program, Exit Matters: Facing the End with Humor and Heart, we host guest speakers each month who talk on a wide array of topics related to the end of life, such as the role of death doulas, green burial practices, and end-of-life care options for those with dementia. Please check out these video talks available on our website. | | Thank You For Donating This Spring! | | |
Of course, we want to extend a special thank you to all of our many returning donors! Your ongoing support allows us to plan for the future with confidence.
Every one of us will face decisions about our end-of-life wishes. Together, let’s ensure that everyone has not only access to accurate, compassionate, and complete information, but also the freedom to choose their own path.
With deep gratitude,
