NOVEMBER ADVOCACY UPDATES

SAVE’s Anna Reese joined Iowa and Illinois leaders in Moline on Oct. 23 to discuss preventing suicide on high-risk structures.

What makes structures safer?

On Oct. 23, SAVE’s Anna Reese joined legislators, public health officials, transportation leaders, first responders, and community advocates from Iowa and Illinois in Moline to discuss how both states can help prevent suicide on structures that span both states.

Anna, SAVE’s government relations and public policy manager, shared how physical barriers can help prevent suicide and how policy can put that evidence to work. She highlighted SAVE’s advocacy for Kayla’s HOPE Act in Minnesota and our ongoing work to advance the federal Barriers to Suicide Act.

The roundtable brought together people who shape policy, oversee infrastructure, and respond to emergencies. We’re encouraged by the willingness on both sides of the Mississippi to work together on solutions.

Want to support the federal bill or bring legislation modeled on Kayla’s HOPE Act to your state?

Protecting kids online can’t wait

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (pictured, left) joined a bipartisan coalition of 45 attorneys general urging Congress to pass the Senate version of the Kids Online Safety Act. SAVE thanks Attorney General Ellison and his colleagues for pressing Congress to act. We’re calling on lawmakers in both chambers to work together to pass strong legislation that requires tech companies to design safer products for children and gives regulators the tools to hold them accountable. The current Congress still has time to get this done. Families shouldn’t have to wait until January.
