Last week, I brought state, town and business leaders together to announce a collaborative solution to clean up Misquamicut Beach.
Over 340,000 people visit Misquamicut bringing over $40 million to this area each year. This season, trash left behind by beach goers flooded our state beach posing significant problems for the environment and the local economy
In addition to enforcing personal responsibility, we are launching a pilot program that will place dumpsters for trash and recycling at the beach exit—receptacles will be tipping fee free. The Town will also invest in solar trash compactors throughout Misquamicut and a part time employee to monitor and enforce the new program. Thank you to everyone who joined my office to make this possible with no increase to beach fees.
