Provide Feedback on Proposed Event Rule Change

As a member of our events stakeholder community, the Austin Center for Events (ACE) invites you to review and provide comments on Austin Public Health's proposed special event administrative rule change. This change aligns with industry recommendations for water supply, toilet facilities, and handwashing statements. It will apply to all Tier 2 events where alcohol, food, or beverages are being served, and all Tier 3 and 4 events. Austin Public Health will work closely with event organizers on implementing this rule, which is expected to be adopted in September 2023.

Specifically, the proposed change will require

  • Water to be provided at the rate of at least one pint per hour per attendee.

  • One toilet per 50 persons; portable toilet waste collection at a frequency that prevents overflow and disposed of in a sanitary manner.

  • Handwashing stations in the vicinity of each toilet location and are must include soap, adequate water supply, and drying facilities.

  • Handwashing station waste must be disposed of in a sanitary manner.
