WHOLE SCHOOL NEWS

Homecoming Week

We’re excited to welcome home many of our beloved alumni in celebration of our 3rd Annual Homecoming Week! Although we don’t hold a homecoming dance or wear mums at school, we do have several special events planned for this week:

  • Alumni Chapel and Breakfast this Friday, December 15. All alumni are invited to worship with us in House Chapel and enjoy breakfast tacos with Mr. Billman.
  • Pancake Brunch this Friday, December 15, from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Alumni and Rhetoric students are invited to mid-morning fare (with Mr. Billman heading up the pancake-flipping team!).
  • House Colors Day this Friday, December 15. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to wear their House t-shirts or colors with jeans or uniform bottoms only.
  • Homecoming Basketball Games this Friday, December 15 will be at Clarence Martin Gym in Temple starting at 4:30 pm. See the full schedule of games below.

Christmas Fun Lunch, Dec. 14th

Thanks to everyone who signed up to volunteer for our last Fun Lunch of the year! Students and staff may wear uniform bottoms or approved jeans along with Providence T-shirts or Christmas colors! Double check the guidelines for Fun Lunch attire here.

Our community enjoyed the beautiful sounds of Lessons and Carols and sights of our Pre-K to 2nd Grade Art Show last week. Many thanks to our students, speakers, and especially music and art teachers for such an inspiring night!

Annual Fund Going Strong

We’re so grateful for the response to our Annual Fund campaign that kicked off last month. We’re praying that 100% of our families will participate. We have several different payment methods to choose from. Please make plans to donate today! Your gift makes a vital difference in our ongoing negotiations towards a permanent home for Providence.

Christmas Break

We will not have school or assignments Monday, December 18 through January 8 due to Christmas Break. School resumes Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Enjoy the time with your family and loved ones!

Oliver! Jr., the Musical, Jan. 19-20

Mark your calendars for the Logic School Theater’s production of Oliver! Jr, the Musical. Several of our 7th and 8th graders have been hard at work, and we’re looking forward to an exciting show. We will have three showtimes during January 19 and 20 and will give more details about showtimes and tickets next month.

Dads, Save the Date: Jan. 25

Our annual Donuts with Dads will be Thursday, January 25. We know many of our parents need a lot of advance notice to take off work, so take a minute, and add this date to your calendar! The festivities will be from 8:00 to about 8:40am.

Fathers of 4th or 8th graders, take particular note: we have a special 4th/8th grade rock ceremony at this time, where fathers present special rocks to their children

Latin II student Adelle Dettmer illustrates her Vulgate translations of the nativity passage.

2024-2025 Calendar

Some of our families may want to make travel plans well in advance, so here is a PDF of the 2024-25 School Year Calendar, which indicates the days that school will be in session, as well as a few of the major events (like Co-Teacher Training and Commencement). The 2024-25 calendar follows a similar pattern to what we have this year.

Enrollment for 2024-25 Coming Soon

January is re-enrollment month. We want to remind you of a couple of changes: those on monthly tuition payment plans will see a pause in January from paying tuition (as opposed to February in previous years), while those on semi-annual plans will see a withdrawal of tuition in December instead of January. This is to allow families re-enrolling for the fall to pay registration fees in January without the added burden of a tuition payment that month. Please watch your email in the coming week for more details regarding contracts. The tuition rates for 2024-25 can be found here.

2024-2025 Online Applications

Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are live through the Blackbaud Resources page, and Providence families are welcome to submit an application for siblings at any grade level. We have already begun processing applications for kindergarten siblings, and there is a priority deadline of January 19, 2024 for all grades, as we want to prioritize our current families before working with new ones. Grade level assessments will be scheduled beginning in January. As always, if you are interested in applying, we encourage you to do so early. Please reach out to Dr. Baird if you have any questions!

GRAMMAR SCHOOL NEWS

Chapel Recitation

6th graders will recite If by Rudyard Kipling tomorrow, Tuesday, December 12 in chapel.

Third grader, Jaxon Orduna, teaches first grader, William Malace, about the law of magnetic attraction during a recent multi-grade science experience.

Second grader Gabe Stagg rocks his Robin Hood hat made for history.

What to do with Report Cards

Report cards will be coming to you during the Christmas break. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Read them. Your child’s teachers have carefully crafted personalized feedback on your child for each of our core academic areas as well as their character development throughout the semester. You’ll want to take the time to glean from their thoughts and receive encouragement for your hard work! These narrative comments are one of the benefits that set the collaborative model apart as small class sizes and shared teaching allow you to celebrate victories and hone in on areas that need improvement.

Take them to heart… Your response to the specific written observations and guidance given for your child by experienced teachers provides the potential for further student progress in the next semester. Take a quick look and address anything that needs either timely commendation or correction. Plan to take another look at these the week before returning to note areas that need to be addressed either in the student or in the co-teaching piece.

…but not too much. A report card provides helpful information on how a student is understanding and working on average through the semester for some areas, or it can show detailed information on assessment of a particular skill on a particular day. Whether the academic scores are high, average, or low, or good habits occur almost always, are “growing” or need improvement, we learn more about our children with this feedback. Lean in with a growth mindset, that as we work together and give our cares to the Lord Jesus, he will help us notice each child’s progress and weaknesses and give us wisdom to cast both their (and our) struggles and victories at His feet.

Hot Chocolate Bar for 5th-8th graders on Fri., Dec.15

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to make and serve hot chocolate this week! You'll bring lots of joy to our 5th-8th grade students, who LOVE this annual day-before-Christmas-break tradition.

Space is limited, and preference will be given to the oldest players. The season will run through mid-March 23 to Memorial Day weekend.

To register: Submit form through Blackbaud, which opened last week and will close next Monday, December 18.

Registration Fee: After submitting the form, students will be notified about team acceptance. At that point, the registration fee of $200, which includes the uniform rental fee, will be due by the first day of practice and will be payable to Providence. Soccer qualifies for the multi-sport discount ($200 for the first sport, $150 for subsequent sports).

ProvFit Registration Now Open for the Spring

Providence's CrossFit training program, colloquially referred to as "ProvFit," is once again accepting new (or returning) members in 7th-12th grade interested in developing their athletic prowess across a broad array of skills and capabilities, including (but not limited to) running, rowing, gymnastic movements, calisthenics, Olympic lifts, power lifts, and more.  The fee for enrollment is $225 per student for the semester and includes training sessions during after-school hours as well as sessions as desired on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the ability to use the gym openly on Saturday mornings. ProvFit does not qualify for the multi-sports discount but there is a discount available for siblings. Currently, spots are open at the 4:00pm and 4:30pm sessions on Providence days, as well as various morning and afternoon times on Mondays and Wednesdays.  The location of the training sessions is at the Hedderlys' home gym facility, CrossFit Non Nobis, 1037 George Wilson Road in Belton.  Training for new enrollees will not begin until after an orientation session has been attended on either Saturday, January 13th, or Saturday, January 20th, at the Non Nobis facility from 9am to 10:30am. Sign up by contacting Coach Hedderly.

Providence Profiles

Jeanna Childers,

Theology

Mrs. Childers is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Education and History. She has taught at Providence since 2018.

“I am so thankful that at Providence we as teachers are encouraged to teach and foster Christlike character in our students. As a Bible/Theology teacher, I get to help the students see how Christ is seen in the entirety of the Bible. The whole Bible whispers His name from beginning to end, and we get to behold His beauty and love in the Old Testament this year. After we have discussed the different themes of each Old Testament book, the students are asked to identify and give examples of how these themes point to our Savior. It is always interesting to hear from them and see how the Lord is working in their hearts.

It is also a joy to collaborate with parents on this journey. To have their support and be able to pray alongside them for their students is an honor. I also enjoy so much praying with the students in class and seeing how the Lord answers our prayers. Being at Providence and being able to teach and instill a love of God’s Word to our Logic students never feels like a job. It is a joy and honor!”

Shari Smitherman,

Pre-K

Mrs. Smitherman is a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She has taught at Providence since 2020.

“Being a part of this wonderful God-centered school has been a blessing in my life.  I have taught children for over 30 years before coming to Providence and have always loved getting the opportunity to teach children but being able to share Jesus with them here gives me such joy.

I am passionate about fostering a lifelong love for learning as well as helping my students draw closer to Jesus as we learn throughout the year. One of the aspects of classical education that I enjoy is teaching using books that are true, good, and beautiful. Our collection of Five in a Row books are a wonderful example of this.

This job is so wonderful that it gives me the opportunity to pray over and with my students during the school day.  I love being able to grow relationships with co-teachers as well as my students.  I have appreciated the encouragement, support, and prayers that I receive from parents.  My prayer is that my students fall in love with school, learning, and the

beauty of all that God created as well as God himself.”
