Donuts with Dads and Rock Ceremony, Jan. 25

Dads, join us at 8:00 am. this Thursday, January 25 for chapel and donuts. Fathers of 4th or 8th graders, take particular note: we have a special 4th/8th grade rock ceremony at this time, where fathers present special rocks to their children

ERB CTP-5, Jan. 30, Feb. 1 and 2

Each year, our 2nd through 9th graders take the CTP-5. This standardized test is one we’ve chosen as a school to help us evaluate our curriculum and student progress. We are limiting our testing days within one week this year for most grade levels, with assessments scheduled for January 30, February 1st, and February 2nd. There will still be limited home and school lessons during this week. Wondering what the CTP-5 is and why we take it? Check out this page: ERB FAQs.

What’s Brewing with Mr. Billman, Feb. 1

Our next parent meeting with Mr. Billman is next Thursday, February 1. Come grab a cup of coffee, stay to hear updates regarding our campus, community, and school initiatives, and stick around to speak with administrators and board members. Hope to see you there!

Contracts/Re-Enrollment for 2024-2025

If you would like to enroll your child(ren) for the 2024-2025 school year, we encourage you to review the contract(s) now available in Blackbaud through the early bird registration deadline of next Tuesday, January 30. Registration fees submitted on or before this date qualify for a $50 discount. Beginning on January 31, registration fees will be the normal rate of $450, and new contracts will be issued based on availability in the class. Please remember, if you are paying tuition monthly, there will be no tuition draft in January in order to make room in your budget. If you have any questions, please reach out to our admissions team.

Heart the Cart: Friday, Feb. 9

The annual “Heart the Cart” celebration for our Upper School (5th-12th Grade) students is coming up and is certainly one of the goofiest days of the year! Many of our students have rolling carts, so we have a day to honor these humble pieces of educational luggage. (We celebrate big backpacks, too - nobody is left out!) House points will be awarded for:

  • Cart decorating: Decorate your cart in any way you wish.
  • Cart Performances: Cart-inspired poems, artwork, song parodies, skits, and videos are all encouraged! (There is a time limitation this year of two minutes if you are entering a song parody, skit, or video.)
  • Please submit your entry to Mrs. Jackson by Tuesday, February 6, at 8 am.

Folds of Honor Scholarship

Folds of Honor is a program that offers scholarships to children of any disabled military veteran with a 90% or greater VA disability rating or of fallen military service members or first responders. Eligible families with students in kindergarten through twelfth grade are eligible to apply for an annual $5,000 scholarship per student that may be applied towards tuition at Providence. Open enrollment application begins February 1, closes March 31, and is first come, first served. Click here for FAQs and here for eligibility requirements.

Tuition Assistance

Providence has a limited amount of funds available for those unable to pay full tuition cost. Applications for tuition assistance are available now, and the deadline for applying is February 22; decisions about tuition assistance will be made no later than March 8. There is a $35 fee to apply, and this fee will be credited to your account if an offer of assistance can be made. Apply here, and reach out to our tuition assistance team for any additional questions.

CO-TEACHER TOOLBOX

A Helpful Phrase for Home Days

“This is an opportunity to practice/ to get stronger in ….”

“I've been talking with my kids a lot about spiritual muscles…In exercise and in life, when something feels too hard for us, that's when change happens… [W]e stop depending on ourselves and ask the Holy Spirit for help, and we start looking a lot more like Jesus.

So, I'm using the phrase ‘This is an opportunity to practice/ get stronger in…’ all the time when I notice our kids start to struggle. I validate the heat/ struggle/ temptation… [O[ften, we'll pray together, and then we give God glory after seeing evidence of growth!”

– Excerpt from Newsletter 010 by Abbey Wedgeworth

Examples for home days include:

"I know that you're frustrated that you're not making faster progress with your math facts, but this is an opportunity to practice perseverance. I know it's tempting to be discouraged or want to give up because you have not met your time goal yet, but the truth is that you ARE improving in your math skills. Even more importantly, your practice is building muscles of being able to face challenges and do hard things!"

"I need you to practice spelling words on your own while I finish working with your little brother. This is an opportunity for you to practice the habit of working independently. Even though it might be easier just to play Legos until you have my attention, getting work done even when I am busy with your sibling will help you build muscles of responsibility and self-discipline."

Providence Profiles

Tammy Null

6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math

Mrs. Null graduated from St. Martins University in Lacey, Washington, with a BA in Psychology. She has taught at Providence since 2020.

I love that classical education takes a more holistic approach to teaching. Besides teaching subjects, we also nurture character and virtue in our students.  Although we learn steps and processes that help to solve problems, critical thinking is required because of the complexity of the problems.  We will problem solve our entire lives – doing so in math helps to foster that thinking.  I also emphasize the beauty and awe in math and how God has designed it.  When we do something within a lesson that points to Him, I can mention God’s hand in whatever it was we were studying.  Since God is the creator of it all, the concepts point to Him in one way or another.  Math points to the beauty, wonder and infinity of our Creator.

Collaboration with parents is vital in any child’s life.  We all want the best for the student.  Fostering good moral character and virtue together gives the student continuity at home and school.

I am very grateful for our co-teachers and am thankful for the appreciation shown to me and other teachers.  I am truly blessed to be part of the community of Providence.

As a Christian, one of my favorite things to do is pray with and for my students each day.  Having taught in public schools, and the restrictions that come with that, this is a welcome change.  I am able to share God’s love with them and hopefully model what prayer can look like.  Attending chapel and worshiping God together is a wonderful way to start our day!”

Daryl Stacey

Physics

Mr. Stacey graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He has taught at Providence since 2017.

“The aspects of classical education that [resonate most with me] are the phrases 'lifelong learning' and 'critical thinkers.' For each physics subject we cover, we pretty much only scratch the surface. It is like cracking open a door and only seeing a fraction of what is behind. The students have the rest of their lives to enjoy learning the rest of it. The intent of each lesson is to teach the kids to think critically about pretty much everything they are being told, to seek the truth in all things. The truth will always lead you back to Christ.

Being a Christian teacher at Providence means everything to me. I am allowed to present scientific subjects from a Christian worldview. My goal is always to leave a lasting impression that there is order in the system (the universe); thus, there must be a creator, and He loves us each individually.”
