Students from the PYC-a new coalition of Providence's strongest youth organizations
(Hope High Optimized, New Urban Arts, Providence Student Union, Rhode Island Urban Debate League, Young Voices, Youth In Action, Youth Pride, Inc. and YouthBuild) met Tuesday with Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza to promote the goals outlined in their youth-written education platform
"The Schools Providence Students Deserve".
Student leaders from the PYC explained their goals to expand student-centered learning in Providence:
Reexamine suspension policies to reduce suspensions and Implement positive, restorative discipline practices citywide
Increase personalized learning through internships and career-oriented classes
Mayor Elorza was actively interested in the PYC representatives' points and his staff agreed to meet again with the PYC soon to discuss the city's progress on these issues.
Also, of course, students couldn't leave without a great photo!
The Providence Youth Caucus looks forward to working closely with Mayor Elorza and other prominent city leaders to realize the goals in their Education Platform. If you support this work, please spread the word by liking
