Good morning,
We hope your summer is off to a fabulous start! This month, we join millions nationwide in celebrating our LGBTQ+ friends, partners, neighbors, family, colleagues and fellow community members. At FCA, we're proud of our longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, and in our work to support and elevate the voices of LGBTQ+ caregivers and their care recipients. Read more below! Plus, keep an eye out for the free LGBTQ Dementia Training that we offer several times a year in partnership with The Alzheimer's Association and Openhouse. The training is specifically designed for health and social service providers like you; we list upcoming trainings in this newsletter and in classes/events on our website.
June is also Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, an important time to highlight the resources and support we offer to caregivers of those living with conditions of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke, and other types of dementia. Check out our Caregivers Guide below and please share widely.
Finally, we hope you'll help us help more caregivers by sharing a 1-page survey with your family caregiver clients. This project seeks to collect and leverage caregiver stories and experiences to raise awareness about caregiving and build stronger channels of support and resources for family caregivers. Read more below or go straight to the survey.
Thanks for all you do!

As a San Francisco-based nonprofit supporting family and friend caregivers for more than 40 years, FCA celebrates and honors diversity and inclusion. We consider family to be an inclusive term and we recognize that caregivers might be friends, partners and community.
We join the world in celebrating Pride Month, and we’re proud to advocate for and support LGBTQ+ caregivers everywhere.
Through the development of LGBTQ+-related resources, support groups, training sessions, events and partnerships, we work to ensure we’re addressing the needs of these caregivers and supporting them...

Resources for Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month
Since our founding, FCA has supported people caring for adults with physical and cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke, and other types of dementia. In honor of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, we're happy to share our Caregiver's Guide to Understanding Dementia Behaviors. Please share this with your caregiver clients or patients who are caring for someone living with dementia or other cognitive impairment.
Share our Survey and Improve Support for Caregivers
By giving a microphone to family caregivers, we’re hoping to raise awareness about their experiences and help turn that awareness into stronger recognition and support for them. You can help us by sharing this survey with your family caregiver clients!
This 1-page survey is designed to identify family caregivers who are open to talking with reporters and others about their caregiving stories and experiences. We believe that by sharing their stories, caregivers can help our community members and leaders understand the challenges, rewards and complexities of caregiving. FCA may use their stories to highlight and advance the caregiver cause in our educational programming, advocacy and policy initiatives, and collaborations with other organizations and agencies in formats such as:
- letters to elected officials
-
on our website and in promotional materials
- in training videos and other materials
- on our social media channels
- in presentations to government agencies
FCA never sells caregiver contact information — our only goal is to elevate caregiver voices to improve channels of support. Thank you for your help!
