CLASSES & EVENTS

• Let's Get Away, Together! — Every Tuesday through Oct 29. Join us in this popular virtual travel series as we explore photography (then & now), Hawaii, glaciers, flower festivals and botanical gardens, and the history of astronomy! Full info and registration here.
• Caregiving 101 — Sept 25. Offers a general overview of what it means to be a family caregiver and how caregiving impacts one's overall health and well-being. Participants will also learn about respite, caregiver stress and ways to find additional help and services. Full info and registration here. 
• Applications Open for Innovations in Alzheimer's Caregiving Awards 2024 — submissions due by Oct 9. Now in its 17th year, these awards recognize organizations that are delivering dynamic programs that are addressing the needs of family and friend caregivers and those they care for with Alzheimer’s disease or a related condition. Adult day centers provide a safe and supportive environment that helps older adults maintain their independence and dignity. Sometimes called Adult Day Health Centers (ADHC), these facilities provide a variety of services, including social and therapeutic activities, meals and snacks, assistance with personal care, and transportation. We're pleased to share this list of centers located across five Bay Area counties:

San Francisco — Bayview Hunters Point ADHC, Steppingstone ADHC, Self Help for the Elderly ADHC, Catholic Charities Adult Day Services, Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center (brain injury focused), Golden State ADHC, Presidio Enrichment Center, Kimochi Adult Day Services.

San Mateo — Coastside ADHC, Rosener House, South San Francisco Adult Day Services, Catholic Charities Adult Day Services

Santa Clara — Avenidas Rose Kleiner ADHC, Golden Castle ADHC, Live Oak Adult Day Services, Hearts and Minds Adult Day Services, Saratoga Adult Day Services, Yu Ai Kai Senior Day Services

Alameda — Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay, Hong Fook ADHC

Contra Costa — Bedford Center ADHC, Mount Diablo Center for ADHC, Lamorinda Adult Respite Center, St. Anne Village, El Cerrito Respite Program with West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Older Adult Education (offered only 1 day/week during part of the year)

The Caregivers Count Conference is a free annual event designed for families and friends who care for a loved one. Now in its 14th year, It features expert speakers as well as senior service agencies sharing information about local supportive services. Although the first two event dates have passed, there is still room for caregivers to join the remaining events — one over Zoom and one held in-person. Sessions run from 10am - 12pm PT and are themed around the following topics:

Sept 28 — Navigating Trauma in Caregiving (Virtual). Presented by Jennifer Burton Flier and Christina Keys



Oct 5 — From Stress to Serenity: Self Care & Resiliency (in-person in Campbell, CA). Presented by Ann Peterson, Jenn Chan, Vivian Silva and Mythri Jegathesan

Family Caregiver Alliance is pleased to share our Fiscal Year 2022-2023 family caregiver data. This annual evaluation conducted by the Family Caregiver Institute at the UC Davis School of Nursing analyzed data in CareNav™, an online platform deployed across the California’s 11 Caregiver Resource Centers (CRCs), to provide important insight on the demographics, experiences, and service needs of nearly 14,000 California family caregivers of adults with cognitive and physical disabilities.

The report authors assessed the impact of CareNav™ deployment across the CRCs—the impact on the daily lives of caregivers and the impact of the CRCs understanding more deeply about their caregiver clients. The authors outlined six major findings ...

The Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards recognize organizations that deliver state-of-the-art programs that address the needs of caregivers and those they care for with Alzheimer’s disease or a related condition. Now in its 17^th year, the Awards are supported by The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, the Bader Philanthropies, Inc. and administered by FCA. They demonstrate both the value of community-based organizations’ innovative work in this area but also the lasting impact achieved by partners and funders working together to improve lives in new ways. 

Three awards of $20,000 each will be given in the categories of Creative Expression, Increasing Access and Reducing Stigma, and Public Policy.
