Coordination of Benefits and Medical COB Policy Update
For members covered by more than one group dental plan, Delta Dental of Colorado will coordinate benefits (COB) and pay claims in accordance with the terms of the group policies, including medical plans.

Starting January 1, 2020, all COB claims will need to include an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) and effective date, from the primary carrier (except in the case of Medicaid), before the claim is processed. All COB claims that do not include an EOB (or ERA) and effective date from the primary carrier will be sent back with a request for information and a new claim produced. The inclusion of an EOB with COB claims is an industry standard, it also allows DDCO to pay COB claims more quickly and accurately, resulting in a win-win for our providers. If you have any questions about the change in policy, please contact provider relations at profservices677@ddpco.com or 303-889-8677.
