Meet our new Board of Advisors Members
|
|
We are excited to welcome four new members to our Board of Advisors:
Sidney Eisgruber, Carrie Hagovsky, Michael Smith, and Jake Stamper.
The role of this board is to advise the Secretariat Executive Director for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis on operational and policy matters. Individuals are selected because of their standing in the community and their interest in the Catholic Charities and its mission. We are grateful for all our Board of Advisors members and what they do for Catholic Charities and our various programs and services.

Catholic Charities Bloomington recently partnered with United Way of Monroe County and Catalent Pharma Solutions to create Mental Health First Aid Kits. Catalent employees gathered during their month of service to assemble 50 take-home kits that contained stress balls, lavender oils, bubbles, mindfulness journals, miniature Zen gardens and more to assist our clients in mental health practices at home. These kits are not intended to replace therapy with our clinically trained therapist but rather to enhance it. In true Catalent fashion, the volunteers developed an assembly line to work quicker and included a "quality control" department to ensure perfection! These kits have been dispersed to CCB’s adult in-person clients and the feedback has been incredible. Learn more at www.ccbin.org

When Miss K was forced to leave her home, she called Becky's Place. She was distressed when she arrived and our staff spent time with her, calmed her down, and showed her a ray of hope and new possibilities. Miss K was initially afraid to let people get close. She settled in and learned new life skills like budgeting, cooking, and cleaning. She worked on developing her social and communication skills and her case manager helped her to communicate more effectively.
During her time at Becky's Place, Miss K found employment, earned her drivers permit, and was accepted to college majoring in arts and business. She hopes to began selling some of her artwork online. She has moved into a new apartment and is currently working our aftercare program which offers her resources and support.

Reflect on time spent with older family
members and friends
|
|
Many people are fortunate to spend time with aging family members and friends over the holidays. This brings opportunities to celebrate; but it can also uncover areas of concern. Whether you have an older adult or caregiver in mind who could use help finding support, or if you want to create your own plan for the future, investigating the resources below can be a good start.
Catholic Charities Indianapolis supports older adults and caregivers of older adults through programs such as A Caring Place Adult Day Services, Caregiver Support Services, and two AmeriCorps Seniors Programs—the Senior Companion Program and RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program). November…it is the month when the broader community celebrates the forever families that have been grown through adoption. This month helps spread awareness and encourages all of us to learn about adoption. National Adoption Month is a celebration of the families and the journey of their children.
In celebration of National Adoption Month, St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities held a walk across the Big Four Bridge from New Albany to Louisville and back on Saturday, November 19th. Over 30 Adoptive family members, staff, and Advisory Council Members gathered at Big4 Station braving 37 degree temperatures. But who cares about the cold when you are out to raise awareness about an important cause? Learn more at stecharities.org

Catholic Charities Tell City

Catholic Charities Tell City has graduated 5 clients from their Budget Basics Class since restarting it. It has given those participants useful knowledge on how to keep track of their finances. One client figured out how to save for her children's Christmas gifts and was so excited! A set of grandparents attended with their grandson who was moving out on his own. This class showed him how to save his funds to ensure all his bills and rent are paid. The grandparents were very pleased with the growth they saw in their grandson. Catholic Charities Tell City will be offering these classes again starting in February. Learn more on their website.

Catholic Charities Terre Haute

When new volunteers come to Catholic Charities Terre Haute, they often stay for years. We are proud to have created an atmosphere where volunteers become our friends and family. One such volunteer was Audrey Cox who volunteered at our Christmas Store for 28 years! She loved interacting with the families and was always encouraged to see the impact our generous community had on so many Christmases. She treasured the holiday season and spending Christmas with her loved ones.
Audrey went to be with the Lord in November of 2021 at the age of 101. Her daughter, Sandy Cox, follows in her footsteps and has volunteered at the Christmas Store for the last 10 years. Audrey’s kind smile and dedication will be missed by the people we serve, the staff, and the volunteers of Catholic Charities.
If you are interested in being a volunteer, click here. The volunteer application only takes three minutes to fill out!

A bequest helps you leave a Catholic legacy
When you look back at the end of your life, what would your faith story say about you? If your answer includes your value of stewardship, then consider what your last gift to the Church should say about your faith life. How might you leave a “Catholic” legacy?
A bequest to Catholic Charities in your will can make a statement of who you were and what you valued throughout your lifetime. It can also bear witness to your loved ones and community at large to your generosity and need to give back a small portion of that which God has blessed you.
A bequest can benefit your favorite Catholic parish, school, or the ministry you hold dear (or any of their endowment funds at the Catholic Community Foundation).
To learn more about leaving a Catholic legacy through a bequest, contact the Catholic Community Foundation (CCF) at 317-236-1482 or ccf@archindy.org.
