Dr. Bradford brings a commitment to defending and strengthening higher education, a collaborative spirit, and a determination to learn, work diligently and improve the entire academic enterprise at ISU. He is a champion for a broad academic portfolio along with its essential relationship to research, creative works, and community impact. His leadership is rooted in principles and values that align with ISU’s institutional mission and shared sense of purpose and responsibility. He has an unwavering commitment to the transformational power of education and reinforcing a student-centric approach to academic success.
He understands the role of a public research university and its value to the State of Idaho, the nation, and the world. Under his leadership as Interim Provost, ISU launched innovative new academic programs, navigated the budget deficit with a strategic and solutions-focused approach, led efforts to build partnerships with sister institutions, and supported efforts that are helping ensure faculty success. In addition, Dr. Bradford has earned the trust of the Idaho State Board of Education and colleagues from institutions statewide. I am confident that his patient, strategic approach will help ISU maintain momentum while fostering impact and strengthening ISU’s reputation amongst our institutional peers. At a time when our university has seen significant transitions, Dr. Bradford is dedicated to providing stability and a forward-thinking approach.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the remarkable community of students, faculty, and staff that make up Idaho State University,” Bradford said. “We are an institution dedicated to making meaningful positive change in our region and throughout the world through impactful research, creative work, teaching, and mentorship. I am committed to honoring the efforts of ISU’s faculty, staff and students by nurturing an environment where each of these constituencies can thrive.”
Dr. Bradford began his higher education professional journey as a successful faculty member developing his scholarship and research portfolio, serving as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students, and focusing on teaching excellence. He began his tenure at ISU serving as the Dean of the Graduate School and then Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Before his time at ISU, Dr. Bradford served as the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, the Director of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, department head for the Department of Philosophy, director of the Ph.D. program in Comparative Studies and Associate Chair of the Department of English at Florida Atlantic University.
I would like to thank the search committee for conducting a thorough search process that included extensive campus participation and feedback. I also thank the institutional community who participated in the search process, including providing important feedback informing my decision.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Bradford who will begin his role on February 16, 2025. I look forward to continuing to work together, as an institutional community, in support of our mission of providing transformational educational opportunities to students.
Sincerely,
Robert Wagner, Ph.D.
