Greetings SPS Community,

We hope you enjoyed a beautiful August, and that your summer is filled with light, love and adventure! Wishing you all a safe and joyful Labor Day Weekend, and sending playa love to all the Burners as we celebrate the change of seasons.

We're excited to share some recent highlights, new offerings, and upcoming September events.

August Highlights:

Leo Birthday Festivities

We truly felt the love of our community Saturday night of August 19. Following integration circle we threw a birthday party to celebrate several members of our community including Taylor Atkins, Rachelle Lanning, and Julie Jackolat. Thank you all for sharing the birthday love!

Meet our new Director: Taylor Atkins!

We welcome Taylor Atkins as Sierra Psychedelic's new Director. Taylor has been instrumental in growing our community, and we celebrate their wealth of knowledge, experience and passion! Thank you, Taylor, for everything you do for us!

Welcome to September!

This month, SPS is excited to announce "The Neuroscience of Psychedelics" for our 3rd Friday event!

Join us on Friday, September 15 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at The Studio Reno (1805 S. Virginia St.) for a presentation on "The Neuroscience of Psychedelics" with Kate Cotter.

Are you intrigued to learn more about the remarkable nature of psychedelic compounds and their unique mechanisms of action in the brain? How and why are these novel treatments so effective for treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, OCD and eating disorders? What sets the classic serotonergic psychedelics (psilocybin, DMT, LSD) apart from medicines such as MDMA or ketamine? How does N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) differ from 5-MeO-DMT, and what are the effects on the brain and body?

Whether you're new to psychedelics and interested to learn more, or a professional in the field looking to gain a deeper understanding of the science & latest research, this talk will provide you with a higher level understanding in an easy-to-understand format.

Kate Cotter serves as the Executive Director for Sierra Psychedelic Society and Nevada Coalition for Psychedelic Medicines. She has been researching psychedelic medicines for over 15 years and believes they hold great potential for healing trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and more—in addition to offering profound opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. Kate is dedicated to bringing awareness, building community, and providing education around psychedelics, in addition to advocating for policy reform. She believes that revising drug policy is a crucial step in bringing much-needed healing to our communities, as well as a critical matter of criminal justice reform.

Kate’s passion for psychedelic therapy dovetails with her studies in depth psychology, Jungian theory, neuroscience, mindfulness and meditation. She is a certified yoga instructor, a trained flow state coach, and holds degrees in Religion and French. Kate has recently completed an 8 week (20 hour) course in the neuroscience of psychedelics, and is currently enrolled in Psychedelics Today's 12-Month Vital Psychedelic Training Program in Psychedelic Therapies and Integration.

WHAT IS INTEGRATION?

"Integration refers to the process by which the material accessed, and insights gained in an entheogenic experience, are incorporated over time in a way that benefits the individual and the community." -ERIE (Entheogenic Research Integration and Education)

These circles are a safe and confidential space to talk openly about non-ordinary states of consciousness. To learn more about integration, click HERE. If you'd like to connect online with our group between meetings, we invite you to join the slack group.
