Welcome to September!
This month, SPS is excited to announce "The Neuroscience of Psychedelics" for our 3rd Friday event!
| |
Join us on Friday, September 15 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at The Studio Reno (1805 S. Virginia St.) for a presentation on "The Neuroscience of Psychedelics" with Kate Cotter. | |
Are you intrigued to learn more about the remarkable nature of psychedelic compounds and their unique mechanisms of action in the brain? How and why are these novel treatments so effective for treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, OCD and eating disorders? What sets the classic serotonergic psychedelics (psilocybin, DMT, LSD) apart from medicines such as MDMA or ketamine? How does N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) differ from 5-MeO-DMT, and what are the effects on the brain and body?
Whether you're new to psychedelics and interested to learn more, or a professional in the field looking to gain a deeper understanding of the science & latest research, this talk will provide you with a higher level understanding in an easy-to-understand format.
Kate Cotter serves as the Executive Director for Sierra Psychedelic Society and Nevada Coalition for Psychedelic Medicines. She has been researching psychedelic medicines for over 15 years and believes they hold great potential for healing trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and more—in addition to offering profound opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. Kate is dedicated to bringing awareness, building community, and providing education around psychedelics, in addition to advocating for policy reform. She believes that revising drug policy is a crucial step in bringing much-needed healing to our communities, as well as a critical matter of criminal justice reform.
Kate’s passion for psychedelic therapy dovetails with her studies in depth psychology, Jungian theory, neuroscience, mindfulness and meditation. She is a certified yoga instructor, a trained flow state coach, and holds degrees in Religion and French. Kate has recently completed an 8 week (20 hour) course in the neuroscience of psychedelics, and is currently enrolled in Psychedelics Today's 12-Month Vital Psychedelic Training Program in Psychedelic Therapies and Integration.
