A Note from our Executive Director
Dear Lori,
As I write this today, I am thinking about how we create a sense of safety in a time of uncertainty. Regardless of one’s personal feelings about the election, everyone can understand that we are looking at big change and that we don’t know what that will look like. Uncertainty is stressful for everyone, adults and children alike. LEAP’s role is to ensure that our children and our families have a safe and trusted organization to support them, not only with childcare and social services, but also with their fears.
Children are especially attuned to stress. When their parents and teachers are stressed, it shows in children’s behavior. So, we’re preparing. I’m communicating with my team to make sure that our teachers and family advocates feel supported and secure. That starts with acknowledging their emotions, whatever they may be. When our employees feel grounded, they can do their best work caring for the children and their families.
I’m encouraging my team to take care of themselves, to pay attention to their well being so that they can do the important work of caring for our community. I share the same message with you – take care of yourself, and, please, be extra kind to those around you. You never know who needs a little extra kindness.
