Abstract

Should you trust your dermatologist more if you learn she is an astute bird watcher? Would you eat wild mushrooms picked by a friend who failed their training to match fingerprints? Some people excel at learning to make fine visual distinctions across domains. Psychology has traditionally emphasized domain-specific expertise, focusing on how radiologists, birders, and fingerprint experts develop specialized perceptual skills through training. Read more.

All talks in the One World Seminar Series are underwritten by the Psychonomic Society and made available free of charge. The Psychonomic Society is committed to programmatic accessibility, quality closed captioning for all One World events in the 2025-2026 schedule.

2027 Election:

Call for Governing Board Nominations

Each April, the Psychonomic Society opens up a call for nominations for its annual Governing Board election. PS Governing Board members help shape the activities and long-term strategy of the organization through participation in Board meetings and service on various PS committees. A full list of 2026 committees and Governing Board members may be viewed here.

The Call for Nominations is now open and the final ballot will include six nominees: three selected from the top nominations submitted by the membership and three selected by the Nominations Committee of the Governing Board. The two individuals receiving the most votes will serve a six-year term from 2027 to 2032.

Members, Fellows, Emeritus Members, and Emeritus Fellows may nominate up to four persons to serve on the Governing Board. Nominations may not include any current members of the Governing Board. Students are not eligible to vote. The deadline for nominations is June 30. Please visit the nominations page for more information.
