The Psychonomic Society is pleased to announce that its 2022 Collaborative Symposium, "Linking Language Perception and Production: Latest Insights and Future Directions," organized by Efthymia Kapnoula and Arthur Samuel (Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language, Spain) will be held in conjunction with the 22nd Conference of the European Society for Cognitive Psychology (ESCOP), 29 August - 1 September in Lille, France.

This symposium will bring together leading experts on different aspects of the relationship between language production and perception. Clara Martin will present compelling evidence that prediction during comprehension relies on the production system, while Victor Ferreira will further discuss how accurate and inaccurate predictions affect language processing in the context of a unifying perception/production framework. Martin Pickering will present data on joint language production, addressing the question of whether representations are shared between production and comprehension. Melissa Baese-Berk will also talk about the representations involved in production and perception, but in the context of perceptual learning of novel speech sounds, showing evidence for a disruptive role of production. Finally, Sophie Scott will delve into the neural systems that underlie speech perception and production, clarifying and constraining their relationship. A call for proposals for the Psychonomic Society's 2023 Collaborative Symposium will open in February. The 2023 Collaborative Symposium will be held in conjunction with the Experimental Psychology Society (EPS), and will be held at the University College London in January 2023 (exact dates TBD). Individual differences in the speed of information processing are consistently related to individual differences in cognitive abilities. It is an open debate whether these associations can be explained in terms of individual differences in some brain-wide property affecting a large number of cognitive processes, or whether these advantages in processing speed reflect advantages in specific cognitive processes such as memory processes, attentional control, or evidence accumulation. I will demonstrate how mathematical models and electrophysiological approaches can be used to shed some light on these questions by decomposing the time-course of information processing and relating process parameters to cognitive abilities... Nominations are being sought for the position of Editor-in-Chief for Learning & Behavior (L&B). The new Editor will begin accepting manuscripts on January 1, 2023.

Our mission is to ensure an inclusive selection process and generate a list of qualified potential editors from a comprehensive set of nominations. We ask you to recommend individual(s) whom you deem capable and inclined to accept the position.

The Psychonomic Society Fellows program recognizes members who demonstrate clear evidence of independent scholarship, active engagement in methodologically rigorous and theoretically interesting high level research, and indications of an imminent national/international reputation for excellence in the psychological sciences. Fellows have been Society members in good standing for at least 2 years, have a minimum of 3 years post-PhD experience, and have at least six recent research publications in high-quality refereed journals, in addition to publications resulting from the PhD.

Fellow applications are accepting on a rolling basis, with applications reviewed twice a year. Applicants wishing to be considered for the Spring 2022 Class of Fellows must submit their applications by March 1, 2022. Apply for Fellow Status.

Beginning February 1, the Psychonomic Society will begin accepting nominations for this year's Early Career Award, Mid-Career Award, and Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Leadership Award. Nominations for all three awards are due March 15, 2022.

The Early Career Award recognizes young scientists who have made excellent scientific contributions to the field of cognitive psychology early in their careers. Awardees receive a physical award and a $2,500 USD cash prize. Read more.

The Mid-Career Award is given for excellent scientific contributions to the field of experimental and cognitive psychology and related areas by an individual who is currently in the middle of their career. Awardees receive a physical award and a $2,500 USD cash prize. Read more.

The Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes career scientists who have demonstrated significant contributions to the field of cognitive psychology over time, who have demonstrated sustained leadership and service to the discipline, and who have served in distinguished leadership roles within the Psychonomic Society.
