PS is now accepting speaker nominations for the 2022-2023 program of the PS One World Cognitive Psychology Seminar Series.

The series runs online during the academic year and features a seminar approximately once every other month. Each session includes a talk by a stellar cognitive psychologist, following by audience discussion with participants from all over the world.

CABN Receives 2021 Impact Factor of 3.526

Cognitive, Affective, & Behavioral Neuroscience (CABN) was recently awarded an overall 2-Year Impact Factor (IF) of 3.526, and 5-Year Impact Factor of 3.790. This represents an increase over the 2020 2-Year IF of 3.282 and the 2019 IF of 2.206. IF is one measure of a journal's reputation, among many, such as overall citations, the Citescore, number of downloads, and more.

The Psychonomic Society congratulates CABN Editor-in-Chief Diego Pizzagalli (Harvard Medical School, USA) and his entire editorial team on this achievement, and thanks them for their continued stewardship of the journal and its research.

PS History Project Partnership with Cummings Center for the History of Psychology

Earlier this year, the Psychonomic Society announced a partnership with the University of Akron's Cummings Center for the History of Psychology, where historians will compile and publish a history of the society from 1997 - 2014.

If you have historical documents or stories you would like to share to be considered for inclusion, please send them to PS Member Services at info@psychonomic.org by July 31st.

Individual Differences in Social Intelligence and Perception of Emotion Expression of Masked and Unmasked Faces

By Riley H. Swain, Aminda J. O’Hare, Kamila Brandley, & A. Tye Gardner

Participants had their social intelligence measured and detected emotions of people wearing a face mask or not. Social intelligence and emotion detection accuracy were related. Accuracy was lower when masks were worn, especially for detecting disgust and sadness. Read the article.

Emotion Recognition Bias Depends on Stimulus Morphing Strategy

By Anastasia Vikhanova, Isabelle Mareschal, & Marc Tibber

Comparing two widely-used emotion morphing methods did not converge on the same biases. In a 50/50 happy/angry morph, one method had more "happy" responses and the other more "angry" responses. Past diverging interpretations may have arisen from confusing stimulus effects for psychological effects. Read the article.

Reexamining the Sources of Variance in Recognition Confidence: A Reply to Kantner and Dobbins (2019)

By Chris M. Fiacconi

Simulations and reanalysis of old/new recognition memory data showed more subject-level variation in confidence for items declared not previously seen ("new") vs. previously seen ("old"). Any differences may boil down to various constraints and conditions instead of interesting psychological effects. Read this paper.
