2026 Keynote Address
Imagine no resources: Attention is selection and normalization for choice
Gordon D. Logan, Vanderbilt University
Thursday, November 19, 7:30-8:30 PM PT
Marriott Grand Ballroom 5 & 8 (North Tower, Lower Lobby)
For many years, research on attention has been dominated by theories based on the assumption that attention is limited in capacity. These include the limited-capacity channel theories of Welford and Broadbent and capacity or resource theories of Moray, Posner, and Kahneman. I will challenge those theories and their many descendants by asking why capacity is limited and what role capacity plays in the computations required to perform attention tasks. See more.

2021 Fall Fellow Felipe De Brigard Selected as 2026 MacArthur Fellow
Psychonomic Society Fellow Felipe De Brigard has been announced as a 2026 MacArthur Fellow. Felipe De Brigard is a philosopher and cognitive scientist reshaping our understanding of the nature and function of memory. He integrates tools and frameworks from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience in theoretical and empirical investigations into how memory relates to other cognitive functions, such as causal and moral judgement, imagination, and forgiveness. In his current research, De Brigard considers the implications for everyday human experience of episodic memory being a form of imaginative or hypothetical thinking. Congratulations Felipe!
