Psychotherapy, Neuroscience, & Buddhism

This course is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students in psychology, social work, counseling, and religious studies programs, and for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of Buddhism's contribution to psychotherapy and neuroscience. Students will become familiar with:
*Western psychological and Buddhist views of mind, mental illness, and wellness;
*Psychotherapies that incorporate mindfulness, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), contemplative psychotherapy, addiction counseling, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy;
*Basic concepts in neuroscience including how meditation appears to impact the brain's functioning and structure.
Credits: Onsite: 2 credits (or non-credit/continuing ed option); Distance Learning (Online Option): Available online for non-credit option only; APA Credit: American Psychological Association Continuing Education (APA CE) credits available for onsite participants only. Note: Students taking this course will not receive certification to provide psychotherapy.
