Clean Audits, No Debt, And Teamwork Results In County Tax Rate Freeze
What the Hunterdon County Freeholders have achieved in freezing the County tax rate in four of the last five years has been realized by putting the County financial house in order, eliminating debt, and teamwork between the Freeholders and County employees, according to Freeholder Matt Holt, who has served on the Freeholder Board since 2007.

As the Budget Committee Chairman or member over the years, Freeholder Holt has been involved in the development of many County budgets. During that time, he says he has seen ‘the good, the bad and ugly’ when it comes to County finances.

Holt said recently, while meeting with local officials, “The Freeholder Board over the last few years have been serious about reducing costs. The County budget today is nearly $12 million less than it was a dozen years ago. In fact, the 2019 budget is still lower than the budget from six years ago. All achieved during an era of rising costs.”

Senator Doherty Introduces Bill Directing NJDEP To Fund Black Fly Spraying
Senator Mike Doherty (R-Hunterdon, Warren, Somerset introduced legislation in the State Senate, S-4182, on October 24 th , that requires the Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to provide annual suppression of black flies each year along the Delaware River.

Hunterdon County Freeholder Board Director Suzanne Lagay stated, “Because black fly infestation is a multi-county problem and the suppression takes place along the state overseen Delaware River, it is a state responsibility. Senator Doherty’s legislation to reinstitute state funding for New Jersey’s share of the cost the Pennsylvania DEP’s spraying by helicopter is most welcome.”

Volunteer Hunterdon Medical Reserve Corps Adds To Emergency Preparedness For County
The Hunterdon County Health Department’s citizen based Medical Reserve Corps is a key added component of the County emergency preparedness program, Freeholder Sue Soloway, the Board’s liaison for the Health Department, reported at a recent Freeholder meeting.

Soloway stated, “As we recognize September as Emergency Preparedness Month, I believe it is important to recognize the Hunterdon County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a group comprised of residents who are both medically-trained and non-medical volunteers, who add to the reach and depth of the County’s ability to respond to health emergencies.”
