Senate Approves $8.3 Billion Emergency Coronavirus Package

Statement from BioNJ President and CEO Debbie Hart

"Congratulations to our New Jersey members of Congress and the House of Representatives for passing a $8.3 billion emergency package to fight the Coronavirus.

"As the number of Coronavirus infections worldwide approaches the 100,000 mark, with a sharp increase of over 120 reported cases in the United States, including our first confirmed  cases of Coronavirus in New Jersey, it is encouraging to see such a strong public health response by our elected officials.

"I am also proud that our biopharmaceutical industry has stepped forward to develop antiviral therapies and vaccines to contain this quickly spreading illness. In fact, a Coronavirus test is being created in New Jersey by Hackensack Meridian Health Center for Discovery and Innovation which is anticipated to be available by the end of the week. Through the combined resources of our industry, working together with Congress, I am optimistic that an effective treatment can be identified to address this pandemic."
