State of the State Recap

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has delivered his fourth State of the State address as Governor of New Jersey. The address focused on the State’s ongoing COVID-19 pandemic response as well as the pandemic’s impact on Patients, businesses and our health care system.

The speech also included an announcement that Governor Murphy will be releasing a plan to help increase health care affordability – including prescription treatments. While the details of the plan remain to be seen, BioNJ is looking forward to working with Governor Murphy and his administration to enhance Patient access for all New Jerseyans.

Eligibility Limits Raised for NJ RX Drug Programs

Governor Murphy has announced an increase of $10,000 for New Jersey’s Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) and the Senior Gold Prescription Discount drug assistance programs. The income eligibility increase will result in 20,000 additional New Jerseyans now having access to these programs. Governor Murphy had previously proposed the eligibility increase as part of his proposed fiscal year 2022 budget, and the NJ Legislature approved the eligibility increase in June of 2021. We thank Governor Murphy for his work in enhancing Patient access to these key prescription treatment assistance programs.
Part D Rule Includes Point-of-Sale Price Concession Provisions

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its calendar year 2023 Part D and Medicare Advantage proposed rule. The rule seeks to make changes in the pharmacy/Part D plan “negotiated price” on which beneficiary cost-sharing is calculated, resulting in a CMS-estimated $21.3 billion reduction in beneficiary cost-sharing liability over the next 10 years.
