Greetings Friends and Neighbors,
Public safety remains a top priority in Broadview, and the results speak for themselves, crime has decreased by an impressive 92% compared to the same period last year. This significant reduction is a testament to the dedication, training, and professionalism of the Broadview Police Department and the continued investments in public safety.
I have always advocated for fair wages for police officers and dispatchers, ensuring they are compensated appropriately for their critical role in keeping our community safe. These raises are negotiated through union agreements, balancing the needs of employees while being fiscally responsible to taxpayers.
- Telecommunication Operators (TCOs) received a 2.5% raise as part of their collective bargaining process. This decision was made through standard labor laws and finalized by a neutral federal arbitrator, not through unilateral action. Their overall contract secured a 17% increase over six years (2020-2026).
- Patrol officers successfully negotiated a 16% raise over four years (2024-2027) a contract that was finalized without arbitration, a major achievement for Broadview. This marks the first time in years that the process was completed without outside intervention.
Addressing Staffing Challenges Without Impacting Safety
Like many municipalities across the country, Broadview faces challenges in police staffing. Currently, we have 24 sworn officers, with a budgeted capacity for 31 officers. However, this has not impacted public safety. Our officers remain vigilant, well-equipped, and prepared to serve and protect at the highest level.
I remain committed to investing in public safety, ensuring that our police department receives the resources, training, and support necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents and businesses alike.
If you have any concerns or questions about public safety, I encourage you to reach out to Chief Thomas Mills at (708) 345-6550.
Broadview continues to be a safe, thriving community where residents can live, work, and play with confidence.
Love and Kindness,
Mayor Katrina Thompson
