Public Transit Shaping Healthy Living
Dayton Streetscapes Shaped by Transportation Plan
What if improving your health was as easy as riding a bus? Well, it is a proven fact that public transit does improve health. People who use public transportation walk more, which improves fitness and reduces the risk of developing obesity, heart disease and other health conditions. It also reduces isolation, especially for older or disabled people.
Without doubt, the city of Dayton is aware of the health benefits and the overall lifestyle change that come with public transportation. Last week, Dayton began on a strategic plan called "Dayton Transportation Plan 2040", where the goal is to blend bicyles, buses, motor vehicles and pedestrians together. One of their first initiatives was to create more bike friendly routes. In May, the Bike Share Link program launched in Dayton consisted of kiosks and long slung green street bicycles. The users had the ability to charge their credit card for only $5 to buy a 24-hour membership. Other cities like the Miami Valley Regional Planning Comission have started to receive similar proposals. The advocates of the Dayton Transportation plan say that cities that accommodate bicycles and pedestrians attract choice minded younger people, in effect economic development and vitality should follow. These type of plans come with positive lifestyle advantages, Like keeping people more fit and enhancing emotional health that comes with a healthier lifestyle.
A healthier lifestyle and all the other wide range of benefits are why CoachCrafters are supporters of Public Transportation. We believe Public Transportation will continue to revolutionize cities all across the world for the better. To learn more about what we stand for please visit us at
