The addendum to the annual report on Article 6.4, covering the work of the Supervisory Body from July 19 to October 9, 2024, has now been published.

This document includes updates from the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body’s 14th meeting and reports on its efforts to finalize key items from the 2024 work plan, as part of operationalizing the Article 6.4 mechanism.

During this period, the Supervisory Body advanced several important initiatives, including:

• Developing the sustainable development tool.
• Establishing standards related to the development and assessment of mechanism methodologies.
• Creating standards for activities involving carbon removals.

Advancing Integrity in Carbon Markets with the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism: 2024 Milestones and Momentum​

A major milestone in the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement took place in Bonn, Germany, with the first centralized expert review of Article 6.2 reports from Ghana, Guyana, Suriname, Switzerland, Thailand, and Vanuatu. This review involved a detailed evaluation by trained technical experts on each country's cooperative approaches contributing to their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

This is a critical step in ensuring the effective implementation of Article 6.

This review process follows an August 2024 training, where over 80 UNFCCC-nominated experts underwent rigorous examination, with select participants chosen for this inaugural review. Supported by the UNFCCC secretariat, this initiative is essential for transparency in cooperative approaches and sets a standard for future Article 6 reporting.

Insights from this first review will inform future assessments, strengthening global efforts to implement the Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.



A mandated in-session workshop on Article 6.8 will be held on November 12 in Baku, in conjunction with the 6th meeting of the Glasgow Committee on Non-Market Approaches.

This workshop is open to both Parties and non-Party stakeholders and will provide a forum for sharing information on current and planned non-market approaches to assist in the implementation of nationally determined contributions.

Over five days in St. George's, Grenada, more than 30 key climate stakeholders, including UNFCCC National Focal Points, academic leaders, and representatives from international organizations and banks, gathered to advance climate action readiness in the Caribbean.

This event, co-organized by the UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre for the Caribbean, GIZ, NDC Partnership, and UNDP, focused on:

1. Enhancing understanding of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and carbon markets.
2. Building on outcomes from the NDC 3.0 Latin America and Caribbean Forum, with an emphasis on Caribbean priorities.
3. Offering guidance on the NDC process and support resources for NDCs 3.0.
4. Linking NDCs with the Enhanced Transparency Framework and climate finance.

The event highlighted opportunities for regional and international climate collaboration, equipping participants with tools and knowledge for effective climate reporting and action.

The Regional Collaboration Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WAC Africa), together with the West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance, is hosting a four-day workshop in Praia, Cabo Verde.

This event will bring together government officials, private sector leaders, and international agencies to deepen their understanding of Article 6 and carbon pricing.

Participants will explore practical strategies for stakeholder engagement, implementation pathways, and the establishment of Article 6.4 Designated National Authorities (DNAs).

The workshop will also provide a platform for sharing best practices, challenges, and successes, while supporting regional stakeholders in integrating Article 6 into their NDCs and strengthening technical and legal expertise for compliance.
