Hello,
Among this week's 19 new and notable books are novels from
Hisham Matar,
Kristin Dwyer,
Karl Marlantes,
Jill McCorkle and
Bonnie Jo Campbell, whose third novel,
The Waters has received glowing reviews from Ron Charles in
The Washington Post and Jane Smiley in
The Los Angeles Times.
This week also brings
Not the End of the World: How We Can Be the First Generation to Build a Sustainable Planet by
Hannah Ritchie. There are so many books about the environment, and rightly so, but it does present a quandary, because how many can any of us read, and how many should BookBrowse be recommending? This one makes the cut because of the authority of its glass-half-full perspective. To quote Margaret Atwood, it's "an inspiring data-mine which gives us not only real guidance, but the most necessary ingredient of all: hope." If you have friends or family members who are feeling despair at the state of the environment, you might want to encourage them to take a look, because hope is not naive, it's a necessary component of change.
You'll find brief information on 10 of the week's books below and more in our
New This Week section. For more soon to publish books, check out
BookBrowse's "What's New" section.
Enjoy!
