Goat Grazing in Powder Canyon, La Habra Heights
This year we had goats in Powder Canyon that grazed 30 acres as a part of the Habitat Authority’s efforts for wildfire prevention. This project was funded by the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy Wildfire Grant Prevention Program.
Other fire prevention efforts by the Habitat Authority include a) annual defensible space clearance around the Preserve borders, b) contracted ranger patrols, c) extra clearance of dead trees and weeds along the Puente Hills Preserve border, and emergency access routes, d) goat grazing in Turnbull Canyon, and e) elimination of flashy fuel weeds with habitat restoration of approximately 100 acres. (Most of these actions listed are funded by grants or outside sources.)
